One Million Consumers Go Online in July to Begin Their Apartment Leasing Process
Record Numbers Click “Check Availability” Indicating Consumer Preferences to Transact Online
August 12, 2008, Scottsdale, AZ – Realty DataTrust, makers of VaultWare™, the apartment industry’s leading online check-availability and reservation system, today announced that for the first time the monthly total for consumers checking specific apartment unit availability online exceeded the one million mark. The VaultWare reservation system logged the usage from July 1 – July 31, 2008.
Representing a historic milestone for the multifamily industry, this volume confirms that providing availability information online is now viewed as more than just a convenience; consumers today expect to find reliable and comprehensive information online that helps them make decisions on where to lease and live.
VaultWare distributes apartment unit availability information through a national network of over 125 websites that includes Internet Listing Services (I.L.S.), Internet search sites and property management websites. According to the VaultWare Online Marketing Index, the I.L.S.'s that renters frequent the most in their search for online information accounted for a combined total of 294 check availability clicks and 6.9 reservations per property. Those sites include:
- Rent.com®
- Apartments.com™
- ApartmentGuide.com
- Forrent.com®
- Move.com®
These sites experienced the highest number of VaultWare-powered availability transactions in July contributing to the record-breaking month; checking availability and reserving online typically begins the leasing process for prospects who want to hold an apartment they see on the Internet and then often visit in person. The VaultWare Online Marketing Index is a reference source for VaultWare clients to benchmark their online marketing and reservation activity and compare their results to industry standards.
"The one-million mark is something we've projected to hit this year," said Gina Kilker, Vice President of Marketing for Realty DataTrust. "When you put this milestone in perspective with what has happened historically it is astounding to see that we reached the million clicks in just 31 days in July, when back in 2004 those same number of clicks took a full calendar year to realize! It's clear to us that consumers, whether they are shopping for an apartment or airline tickets or any other purchase, go online specifically searching for concrete information they can use immediately to make decisions. That was the exact premise that drove the development of VaultWare when it was launched in 2003."
